OWNER SURRENDER

You have decided for whatever reason to give up or get rid of your dog. The dog is too big, too furry, barks too much. You knew you were buying a collie when you got a puppy. You are having a lifestyle change…Are you planning on taking your children with you? "We don't have enough time for the dog"…who does? Moving? How long have you known about the move? How hard have you tried to find your dog a good home? Unless you are an animal abuser or sadist, chances are your animal will not find a better home than you. Even if you find a good first home, your dog's homes may gradually worsen until he/she falls through the cracks altogether and is either mistreated or taken to the pound. There is not a long line of good homes waiting to adopt your older collie. You say your dog is wonderful and deserves a really special home–splendid, keep your dog. It is virtually impossible and a long time consuming process to find your older collie a GOOD permanent home…you don’t want your dog and no one else does either. Your dog loves and trusts you and will not understand being abandoned. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO YOUR TRUSTING ANIMAL!!!!!!! If you are still trying to give up your collie…

  1. Shame on you
  2. Please spay or neuter your animal before placing it in a good home. There were 18 million dogs euthanized last year.
  3. It is YOUR responsibility to find YOUR dog a good home; not rescue. Rescues are established to save collies that are in animal controls or shelters where they are going to be destroyed.

If after all of this, you are still determined to not care for your loving pet, at least try for the animals sake to find it a good home.

Your dog cannot find itself a good home. YOU must do that for them. Your dog is at your mercy and it trusts you.

  1. Never give a dog away "free to good home". People who get something for nothing treat it like it's worth nothing. More importantly there are many unscrupulous people that watch and wait for free animals. They present themselves as being a good and caring home then sell your defenseless animal to a laboratory. It is a very big, money-making business. Do you want your collie used in research?
  2. Go and screen prospective new homes. Do they have a fence? Do they have a vet reference? Contact that vet to see if previous animals have been well cared for.
  3. Have this new home sign a contract to return the collie to you if they no longer can keep it.
  4. Visitation rights–make sure that you have the right to see that the collie is well cared for.
  5. Charge at least $50 for your dog. Make sure they are current on vaccines and heartworm preventative. Keep your dog from going to a laboratory.
